These are the things my Kwame AI team thinks about and tries to learn from talking to different stakeholders as we build and deploy AI in education across Africa!Ĭome join us to work on our open-source project, NSMQ AI as we build AI in Education to work in the African context. In Ghana (or some other country), it’s important to ask questions like what are the learning challenges that students care the most about? What is the biggest pain point teachers want to be solved? How can we enable learners to easily access technology like this? How do we make sure that local, contextual knowledge (e.g., textbooks, national exam questions, etc) gets used as the knowledge base in these AI systems? ![]() That was my initial thinking.īut upon closer look and reflection, I could see the ways it won’t address key education challenges if used as it is in Ghana.Īnd this is where the context piece comes in. ![]() The thing though is that when new and exciting technology like this gets announced, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the intended challenges being addressed are now solved globally. ![]() This will without a doubt be a game-changer! This is the most exciting thing I’ve seen in AI in Education yet and it’s from an EdTech whose product helped me during my undergrad years!įinally, the promise of Bloom’s 2 Sigma Problem which made the case for one-on-one tutoring has come alive due to advances in AI. I watched the demo of Khanmigo, Khan Academy’s new Chatbot based on GPT-4 and it’s really impressive! ![]()
